homework assignment 1 for contemporary repression course (the new academy) given on friday of any particular week:


for your first project please read and memorize all writings on “post modernism” and anything that contains the words “multi-cultural” or “globalism” by this monday. after that, make some non-literal synthetic paintings on railroad timbers faced with 1/4 inch aluminum sheathing that reflect your interest in gender studies and the relationship between queer culture and phenomenology. when you are done with that, please review duchamp’s role in relation to the contemporary canon with accents on both marx and hegel. when that is compete, please write a 20 page essay on “the joys of classism and the cultural elite”. finally, make 19 sculptures that use heterosexual male materiality concerns and wed them to western colonial practices in the early 19th century. please have all this ready for viewing and discussion by this coming monday. if you have some free time after completing these tasks, do 4 installations and (12) 3 minute videos (36 minutes total) that speak of the implausibility of soulfllness in the post-post-post-post modern era. also, define hegemony from the point of view of  a 17th century physical scientist.
